The job of a leader is to spur growth in and help develop those they lead. That’s a pretty high bar to reach, and it takes a lot of tools to get there.

One of the most important tools a leader has is the ability to ask quality questions. Quality questions mixed with active listening can give you a window into what’s really going on, and show you your next steps to make sure you’re developing the people on your team.

In the past, I felt the pressure to continue to come up with good questions that were fresh, new, and helpful regularly. Over time, I realized there is a deep benefit to asking the same quality question over and over.

So to help you out, I wanted to share with you some of my go-to questions when I’m meeting with my team. I literally have these typed out in a note and can pull them up before a meeting to see which ones may fit the moment best.
